ISO 9001 Quality Management
This standarard sets out the criteria for a quality management system. Also it is the only standard in the 9001 family that can be certified to (although this is not a requirement). The standard was revised in 2015, and the transition period from previous ISO 9001 has now finished. So it can now be used by any organisation, large or small, regardless of its field of activity. In fact, there are over one million companies and organisations in over 170 countries certified to ISO 9001.
This standard is based on a number of quality management principles. So it includes a strong customer focus, motivation and involvement of top management. A process approach and continual improvement. These principles are explained in more detail in the pdf Quality Management Principles. You can use it to help ensure that customers get consistent, good quality products and services. Which in turn brings many business benefits.
ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organisation:
a) Needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
b) Aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system. Including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer needes. And applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
All the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 are generic and are intended to be applicable to any organisation, regardless of its type or size, or the products and services it provides.
